But in Japan, Mitsubishi has about 15% of the market behind leader Matsushita (NYSE: MC - news), according to The Strategis Group, a Washington, D.C., wireless market research firm. And the Japanese market is not small. As of April 30, there were 58 million mobile phone users in that country, according to The Strategis Group. Other players in the Japanese market include NEC (Nasdaq: NIPNY - news) and Kyocera (NYSE: KYO - news). Mitsubishi has forecast shipments of 25 million phones this year and 60 million by 2003. Strategis has forecast that by 2006 Japan will be the second-largest market for 3G subscribers behind China.
Phillips Group Study: Wireless LAN Industry To Reach Revenue of $1.7 Billion in 2004
